08/05/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Neil is a hard working kid who wants to get better. During his time in Pirate City he showed energy both in the OF and on the mound. Defensively in the OF, he shows good awareness and field presence as he moves well pre-pitch to get into position. He is aggressive, takes a quick first step, and moves well to play through the ball toward his target. As a hitter, Neil gets his weight back and maintains good balance. He drives the barrel through the ball showing hard contact and some pull side pop. On the mound, this LHP shows good tempo and controls the game. He works his FB to both sides of the plate as it shows run and late action. CB is best off speed, displaying 2/8, sharp break. Overall, Neil will have success both on the mound and in the OF thanks in part to his hustle and hard working mind set.

04/14/2013 - College PREP - Albuquerque, NM Evans has some length to his limbs at 5-foot-11 and 150 pounds. He worked out in the OF and at 1B, and showed solid in both spots. In the OF, his feet worked fine and he covered solid ground. He worked through the ball well, but tended to cut off his momentum in his crow hop and got uphill with his shoulders. At 1B, his feet worked better - he was nimble around the bag and was able to work to the forehand and backhand sides. His hands and glove action have room to soften up. At the plate, he hit from a square setup and did a good job with his stride and load. His stroke was level, and he did a good job of working to contact on a direct route. He used the whole field and showed some bat speed. On the mound, he topped at 79 with his fastball and spun an upper 60s breaking ball. He showed some arm speed, but relied too much on arm strength in his delivery. Can work to slow down and gather his balance, arm needs a chance to work from the glove in order to reach a more consistent spot out front to release. Overall, a talented all around player with potential to develop further.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
