07/13/2010 - College PREP - Washington DC, MD Nevin showed improvements in his game since his last workout in Baltimore. He lowered his 60 time from 7.58 to 7.32, and increased his velocity from 76 to 80 MPH. In the OF, Nevin improved his fielding grade from 40 to 45, showing an excellent arm action and good accuracy to his target. Nevin fields the ball cleanly, takes good routes to the ball, and he fields the ball at its highest point. If Nevin can quicken his exchange, and use his legs more to throw, we could see OF grades further improve. At SS, Nevin has a good set-up and he fields the ball out in front of his body. He has good hands and footwork, and he plays through the ball well. INF skills can get better if Nevin can lighten his feet, attack the ball more aggressively, and get his glove down sooner. At the plate, Nevin has good bat speed and barrel accuracy. He tracks the ball well, has good hands, and he works the ball up the middle of the field. Nevin gets decent extension through the ball, and if he can transfer his weight better, level off his swing, and tap into his lower 1/2 more, offensive tool grades can further improve.

05/16/2010 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Nevin is a long, lean, and strong player that plays OF and SS. He currently projects even at both positions as he approaches his Sr. year. In the OF, Nevin has quick feet and is aggressive to the baseball. He has athletic actions, makes plays, and throws accurately with some carry to his target. If Nevin can catch with 2 hands, strengthen his arm, and get more front side lead, defensive OF grades can further improve. In the INF, Nevin makes plays on balls hit his way and has okay lateral movements. He has an accurate arm across the diamond and may be better suited for 3B. Defensive grades can improve if Nevin can field the ball in a lower, more athletic fielding position and have looser overall actions. At the plate, Nevin has good balance and bat speed. He tracks the baseball well, has pull side pop, and he works the ball up the middle of the field. Hitting can improve if Nevin can let the ball travel deeper, stay back, and finish off his swing.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
