08/04/2010 - Pirate City World Series 2010 - Session 1 Goodman showed similar abilities that we had previously seen in NY. Throws show accuracy through a consistent release point but will benefit by getting on a long toss program to provide more carry. Feet are active and aggressive as he displays sound mechanics in his defensive abilities. Offensively, Nic is a solid contact hitter that works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He is very coachable and starting to drive the ball at the plate, flashing bat speed.

06/06/2010 - College PREP - Troy (Albany), NY Nicholas is a small, young, SS that will graduate in 2012. In the INF, Nicholas has okay footwork and he moves well laterally. He has soft hands, he fields the ball using 2 hands, and takes good angles to the ball. Nicholas has an accurate arm, with some carry across the diamond. Defensive grades can improve with a better set-up, earlier glove, and a quicker exchange. At the plate, Nicholas has good balance and bat speed. He tracks the ball well, has a level swing, and a line drive approach. If Nicholas can have more direct hands to the ball, avoid spinning off, and use more lower 1/2, hitting grades can further improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
