02/18/2018 - College PREP - Crosby (Houston), TX Nicholas is a thin and talented 2-way player. In the OF Nicholas has a good pre pitch movements and a quick first step to the ball. He creates angles and works behind the ball. At the plate, Nicholas has a closed stance and uses his lower half. He keeps his barrel on plane with the ball and has an overall compact swing. On the bump, Nicholas gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and rotates toward his target. He shows good fastball command and has good tempo in his delivery. Nicholas will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/23/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Nicholas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate, he has improved his power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He has strength in his swing and utilizes his lower half well with gap-to-gap pop. In the OF, he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls, playing through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 74 mph. Fastball showed a range of 73-74 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 4 years to further develop, Nicholas has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game, possibly as a two-way guy.

11/20/2016 - College PREP - Pearland, TX This L/L 2-way player continues to work hard on his game. In the OF, he is aggressive and tracks down fly-balls with speed, working into position behind the ball. He secures it with soft hands and has a clean exchange to throw, firing the ball accurately with carry. As a hitter, Nicholas shows his patience as he tracks pitches into the zone and off of the barrel. He squares the ball up, hitting line-drives to all parts of the field. On the mound, this LHP has smooth separation and stays directional toward the dish, repeating his delivery well. FB now tops out at 69 mph. Changeup is thrown with FB arm speed. This 2021 grad has skills with a ton of potential. He is one to keep an eye on as he continues to progress.

02/07/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Tomball (Houston), TX Nicholas continues to progress. With the bat, this LHH has a square setup with a good base. He has rhythm in his hands and gets good separation. He squares the ball up and drives it on a line. Swinging on a more direct path with increase bat speed will result in more power at the plate. In the OF, he takes a quick first step and gets good jumps working into position behind the fly-ball. He secures the ball and makes accurate throws to his target. On the mound, this lefty has a 3-pitch mix (FB, CB,CH) - throwing all 3 for strikes. He works the ball in and out and will challenge hitters to swing the bat. FB ranges from 67-68 mph while breaking ball shows 2/8 shape. Changeup has sinking action and will result in GB outs. Continuing to strengthen his arm (long toss) will help to unlock his potential on the diamond. Only a 2021 grad - Nicholas has a solid skill-set and will only continue to develop as he physically matures and gets stronger.

07/14/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Nicholas was a very respectable young man that worked as an OF at the Pirate City National World Series with Baseball Factory. In the box, he showed pop when centered and generated decent bat speed to hit. He got his hands activated and handled the bat with loose actions. Controlling his load and getting in his legs will improve balance and barrel accuracy. In the OF, he got good reads off the bat and was sure handed to make plays. He was on-time to field and threw with good arm action. Physical strength and agility are his keys to further growth. In all - Nicholas is only a 2021 that has a lot of time to improve his game and consistency.

06/15/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Tomball (Houston), TX Nicholas is a LHH 2-way player as a OF/1B. With the bat, this lefty shows a balanced setup with rhythm in his hands. Hands are quick as he whips the barrel through the zone as squares the ball up, hitting line drives. In the OF, he takes a quick first step and tracks down fly-balls hit to his right and left. He secures the ball with 2-hands and plays through it well, gaining ground toward his target. At 1B, Kapusta is aggressive and comes to get the GB. He picks out the hops, gathers well and is sure handed. He makes the backhand play smoothly and plays through it well. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Offense
1. Contact points
2. Lower 1/2 drive
Outfield
1. Routes / Angles
2. Arm strength (long toss)
Infield
1. Footwork around 1B
2. Glove presentation

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
