01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Nicholas is the type of player every coach wants on his roster. He is a tough competitor who works extremely hard, pushing all of those around him to match his effort. On top of that, he can flat out hit. His simple RH stroke is level and has very good barrel accuracy. He understands the type of hitter he is and is content to hit hard line drives to all fields. In the infield Nicholas moves his feet well and has dependable hands. His arm is best suited for 2B where he profiles as an offensive 2B at the next level.

04/29/2012 - National Tryout - Providence, RI As we have seen Nicholas at several events, he continues to improve. He ran his fastest 60 time, running it in 6.98. His quick/active feet help him to increase his range and reach balls in the hole. He continues to field the ball out front through soft/sure hands. Offensively, he tracks the ball into the zone, he is aggressive and he has pull-side pop. Nicholas showed plus effort as he hustles all on and off the field.

11/13/2011 - College PREP - Marlborough, MA Nicholas continues to show improvements in his overall abilities. He lowered his 60 time at the event and looks solid both offensively and defensively. At SS, Nicholas has sure hands, he fields from the right, and he keeps the ball in front. He makes plays, bends at the knees, and he flashes a good backhand. Nicholas has a long arm action, and he throws with carry and consistency to his target. Playing more through the ball and continuing to add arm strength will help defensive abilities improve. Offensively, Nicholas has a square set-up, a proper load, and a short / square stride. He has good balance, an aggressive swing, and he keeps his head still. Nicholas makes hard, consistent contact, and he swings in good rhythm. If Nicholas can add physical strength and create backspin on the ball, we could see offensive numbers rise.

10/19/2011 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic - 2011 Karalekas is a middle infielder with good upper body strength and a projectable body. Defensively, he has good life and carry in his arm with the ability to play the backhand well. His defense will continue to improve as he learns to play through the ball. At the plate, he has quick hands that direct to the ball and creates good coil in his hip prior to making his move to the ball. His power at the plate should begin to develop as he learns to keep stay on top of the ball and keeps his head still. With two years of high school baseball remaining, Karalekas has the opportunity to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

12/27/2010 - Christmas Camp and Tournament 2010 - Session 2 Karalekas improved foot speed as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.50 as he will benefit by staying on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are aggressive on his approach of ground balls as he plays through. He needs to work on presenting hands more down and out front. Throws are accurate as he gets into a strong throwing position but needs to stay on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength with carry. Offensively, Nicholas has improved hitting abilities to slightly above average. Hands are short to long through the ball, displaying extension through good bat speed. He makes consistent contact and is patient at the plate. At the event, he was 3 for 7 with a 3B. He is a great team guy with a positive attitude that has a lot of talent.

09/04/2010 - Accelerated Infield Weekend (Commuter) Nicholas showed solid footwork in his defensive play in the middle of the IF. Feet are active in coming to get and playing through the ball as he maintains great body control. He moves well laterally, especially to glove side and consistently make the plays. Hands are soft, clean and sure showing quickness in his feeds / turns of the double play. He needs to continue to stay on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength with carry. Karalekas is a very coachable and shows a strong desire and work ethic to be the best he can be.

07/15/2010 - Cape Cod Training 2010 - Session 2 Karalekas showed a lot of improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.75 runner. He utilizes his feet well in his play as he has improved his defensive grades as he shows a good feel for his position. Arm strength has improved but will benefit by staying on a long toss program. Hitting grades and power numbers have improved as well. He shows a balanced approach, allowing his hands to work well through the zone, flashing bat speed.

03/28/2010 - College PREP - Providence, RI Nicholas is a young, 2013 graduate that shows as a SS with a thin frame, showing projection as he continues to physically mature, filling out. Feet are active as he shows a low approach but needs to be more aggressive in coming to get, playing through ground balls with feet and hands. He works hard and gets rid of the baseball quickly from a low, stiff arm slot as he will benefit from a long toss program. Offensively, Karalekas shows a solid set up and takes a hack but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving quickly with instruction and adjustments. With 3 years to further develop, Nicholas has abilities with time and a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
