04/23/2017 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Nicholas is a thick, athletic RHP/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Arm strength is solid as indicated by his top velocity of 83 mph. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point. Fastball showed a range of 76-83 mph with arm side run and heavy action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with sharp / late break and shows potential as being a quality pitch. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop better feel for pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. In the OF, he displays smooth / clean actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Feet are aggressive as he works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. Nicholas has an upside on the mound with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
