Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

08/05/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Nicholas continues to show as a 1B/LHP but currently projects best at 1B for the next level. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / clean as he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered and has improved power numbers. At the event, he was 5 for 10 with a 3B. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date but will benefit continuing to improve foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 66-71 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable who shows great body language on and off the field.

07/22/2012 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 4 Nicholas worked out at both 1B and on the mound during his time in the Cape. Defensively Nicholas has good pre-pitch actions, he fields out in front, and his glove is solid. He knows where the bag is, his exchange is clean, and he has accuracy to his target. On the mound, Nicholas works to his balance point well, he has good glove side lead, and he has on-time separation. He is consistently down in the zone and he lands in a square position. At the plate, Nicholas has a good setup, solid feel, and he tracks the ball well. He has good barrel accuracy and some pop in his bat.

08/02/2011 - Vero Beach Pro Select Training and Competition - 2011 (Pre-HS) Nick is a tall young man with thick limbs who will graduate in 2015 and can play 1B and LHP. He has a long/loose/fluid throwing action. As an infielder Nick has soft hands, fluid footwork, an athletic setup and solid feeds. At the plate he displayed an athletic/square setup, hands back load, square/centered stride, strong balance, level swing path, good timing and he can use the whole field. Also he showed an explosive lower half and has a line drive approach. He has a great foundation for a strong hitter. Nick can be a very successful player in the future if he continues to progress his skills. Showed a very good work ethic and was a very coachable young man.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
