Official Scouting Report

  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

06/18/2010 - USA Baseball 16U Championships (FL) - 2010 Andress continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and displays plus mental makeup. He has a feel for the game with a lot of athletic actions. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.10 runner. He utilizes his foot speed on the bases as he will steal a base. Feet are active in the OF, taking proper routes and angles in tracking down balls as he works to get behind and play through with momentum towards his target. Hands and feet work well together in getting rid of the baseball quickly. Andress displays a plus arm in the OF. Offensively, Nick shows a solid, balanced approach, displaying quick hands with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. He needs to work on staying closed on the front side, allowing hands to work inside the baseball to utilize all fields. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 83-85 mph through a loose, live arm action. Breaking ball is a quality pitch when he stays on top. He has an upside on the mound and could be a two-way player at the next level as he continues to improve.

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Nick is a young, athletic, 2-way player with very good skills for a 2012 grad. He is a quick outfielder with a live, loose arm. Nick plays through the baseball well and has a good idea of the OF position. He has good baseball instincts and play skills, and with a few less steps in the OF, his defensive abilities could get even better. On the mound, Nick again shows his loose, powerful arm. His CB and CH grades both improved and he can throw them both for strikes. Nick makes good use of his lower 1/2, and his front foot lands softly. If Nick can remain tall during separation and keep a more consistent release point, we should continue to see progress on the hill. At the plate, Nick has good balance, a level swing, with good bat speed. He can work the ball the other way and with a more compact stroke and quicker load, offensive numbers can also climb.

12/19/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #1 Nick again showed well, participating in PC week 1. He improved his skills in many categories, and continues to be a player to watch as he continues to grow. Nick currently projects better in the OF than on the mound, but he has talent at both positions. Nick's strong and athletic build showed well in the OF along with his good hands and feet. He has a good, long arm action with plenty of life and carry. On the mound, Nick FB was clocked in the mid 80's and his mechanics are sound. He showed good tempo on the hill and is able to create good torque with his frame. With improved consistency on the hill, Nick has a bright future of being a 2-way collegiate player. Offensively, Nick has excellent balance and bat speed. His overall hitting and power numbers improved from 48's to 52's since we last saw him. Nick will need to stay focused an positive on the field and continue to be a take charge player. He certainly has the talent!

11/08/2009 - College PREP - Austin, TX Nick is a young, 2012 graduate that shows very well in the OF. He has a tall and thin projectable frame which will fill out as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is near above average as indicated by his 7.20 60 time. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes and angles in tracking down balls in the OF through an aggressive approach. He works to get behind balls, playing through with momentum towards his target. His hands and feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. His defensive abilities in the OF are above average with above average arm strength as indicated by his 86 mph arm at the arm strength station. His throws show life, carry, and accuracy as the baseball explodes out of his hand. At the plate, Andress continues to shine with above average abilities and power through a balanced approach. He loads well, taking hands to and through the baseball at contact, displaying plus bat speed as he shows a feel for the barrel with the ball jumping off his bat when centered. With 3 years to further develop, Nick has the makings to be a solid player at the next level and will get attention from the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
