Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHPPosition Projection

08/21/2010 - College PREP - Purchase, NY Nick is a strong, stocky, RHP that showed improvements on the mound since his last workout. Nick has a loose, free arm action and he throws a heavy ball. He keeps his eyes to his target, he repeats his delivery, and he uses his lower 1/2 well. Nick gets good separation, and he is able to keep his arm speed the same with all of his pitches. Nick can continue to get better on the hill if he can improve his glove side lead, and continue to add arm strength. Offensively, Nick has okay balance and average bat speed. He squares the ball up well on the barrel of the bat, and he puts it in play. If Nick can shorten his swing and improve his lower 1/2 rotation, average hitting grades can get better.

08/22/2009 - College PREP - Purchase, NY Nick is a young RHP with an average frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Delivery is average with an upside with instruction. Arm action is quick, loose and easy. Arm strength is slightly below average and he would benefit from getting on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, raising velocities. Fastball shows a range of 74-76 mph with little run at times. Breaking ball is best off speed pitch displaying 11/5 shape with tight spin, and late depth. Changeup is average showing good feel for with slight run. Split finger displays some run and sink. He throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will rise quickly if more arm strength is developed. Nick's hitting abilities and power also rated out as slightly above average.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
