Official Scouting Report

  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

12/27/2010 - UA Recruiting Classic - 2010 Miller showed similar abilities both on the mound, and in the OF as he did at his last working in Rocklin, CA. On the mound, Nick has an easy / fluid tempo, and he is around the plate with all of his pitches. He improved his FB from 74 to 77 MPH, which he uses to attack hitters. In the OF, Nick gets good reads off the bat and he makes plays. He takes good strides to get to the ball, gathers himself well, and throws with a loose arm action, accurately to his target. At the plate, Nick has good balance, a level swing plane, and he flashes good barrel extension. He is currently an average HS hitter who improved his power grade from 30 to 40 during the event.

09/12/2010 - College PREP - Sacramento, CA Nick is a two-way player on the mound plus in the OF with a strong, athletic body that is well suited for his positions. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 6.76 60 time. Feet are active and aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls in the OF, displaying range. He needs to working getting behind fly balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Actions are athletic as he plays hard. Arm slot is ' and he takes extra steps in getting rid of the baseball with throws showing accuracy and carry. He will benefit by getting instruction on his footwork to throw and get on a long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. Offensively, Miller shows a simple, solid setup that allows his hands to work direct to the ball. He makes consistent contact with power numbers improving as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing and load more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 72-74 mph with occasional sink on a downhill plane. Changeup is best off speed pitch showing a feel for with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with loose spin as he needs to work on staying on top of pitch and finding a consistent release point. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Nick has a lot of abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
