07/27/2023 - Southwest Championships 17U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Nicholas is a scrappy and talented middle infielder in the 2024 class. He impressed scouts with his actions, hard work and coachability. As a defender, he begins in a relaxed stance and his footwork is smooth. Gains a quick 1st step (7.19 runner) and his body is on-time to defend the baseball. His pocket has feel and he sucres the baseball properly. Arm works at 81 and his throws have carry. Shows advanced footwork on either side of the bag on his DP actions. At the plate, he has a relaxed feel and his hands are loose. Gets into his load and stays inside his feet. Barrell is on-plane and his hands are fast (85 exit velo). Had an excellent showing with 6 hit/1 BB in 11 plate appearances. Excellent baserunner and show the ability to gain the free 90. Overall, great player with a high ceiling.

12/27/2022 - Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Nicolas continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities at the Recruiting Classic. At the plate, hitting / power potential is now well above average through a wide setup. Hands are quick and works through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.34. At SS, he shows smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Hands are firm and presents out front. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/24/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Sonoma, CA Nicolas is an athletic SS who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying solid hitting / power potential through an open setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing through an aggressive hip turn. Power will increase as he firms up front side, transferring weight into it. At SS, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is clean and presents out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Nicolas has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
