09/16/2021 - Pathway AZ Upperclass - 18U Owen is a tall OF/LHP prospect who showcased his skills during the Pathway tournament. In the field, Owen shows smooth footwork with a quick first step. He gets into an athletic position and fields with sure hands. His exchange is clean and he gets rid of the ball quickly, making accurate throws to his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a short stride. He gets into a simple load and hits against a strong front side. He works through a level swing with plus barrel control, driving the ball to his pull side. On the mound, Owen starts with a small rock step and gathers over the rubber. He works inline toward the plate and finishes with a controlled landing. Owen's fastball tops out at 72mph. Overall, Owen is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

07/19/2021 - All-In Membership - Trenton, NJ Owen is a 1B/OF prospect who will graduate in 2022. Medium frame, well proportioned, and athletic build with strength present and plenty of room to add throughout. At 1B, efficient feet and a good prep step enable him to create good fielding angles in all directions. He tries to center the baseball while keeping his feet active throughout the fielding process. Short arm action as he throws from multiple arm slots. Good carry on his throws to second base with an arm velocity of 76mph. Plays with good energy. In the OF, showed ability to cover ground with active/efficient feet. Aggressive routes on ground balls. Ability to flip hips and go get balls in both gaps. Plays through both groundballs and flyballs with a clean transfer. Showed a quick release on his throws into the infield. A left-handed hitter, hits from an athletic and square stance. Good rhythm to his swing, with ability to barrel up baseball, and he gets good extension through contact. Flat barrel path as he made square/consistent contact to both gaps with a bat exit velocity of 81mph during his round of BP. Another year of continued growth and development, Owen should have opportunities to play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
