01/07/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (AZ) Owen a LHP/1B had a strong showing in the AZ Preseason event. Owen is a strong and athletic (6’0/190) and will graduate in the 2022 class. In the field, he has solid footwork and pocket awareness. He moves well around the bag and is exceptional on balls in the dirt. Increased hip flexion will allow him to move well laterally and play lower to the ground. On the mound, he operates with a 3-pitch mix. His FB topped at 77 with arm side sink. His CB sat 67-68 with 2/8 shape. His CH sat 67-69 with movement. He generates power from his back side load and keeps his eyes to the target well. He will attack hitters under the hands to miss barrels. At the plate, he swings with intent to do damage. He has a short path and stays in the zone. Shows potential for power with his gap-to-gap approach. Overall, Owen skills were on display and will make a fine addition to a college roster next year.

09/03/2021 - Baseball Factory's All-Region Tournament (HS) Owen is a 2022 LHP/1B who showcased his skills at the the All Region Tournament. On the mound, he works with good direction down the mound and picks up target early. Shows some deception to his mechanics by disrupting hitters timing. Also does a good job of holding runners and varying his looks. In 5 innings of work he punched out 7 batters and allowed 1 unearned run. Overall good feel for pitching with a confident demeanor. At the plate, he does a good job of keeping his hands inside the baseball and using whole field. He made consistent contact while showing good plate discipline. In the field, he showed active/efficient footwork with ability to create good fielding angles. With another year of development, we foresee Owen having a bright future on the baseball field.

07/27/2021 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (HS) Owen continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, he shows smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 78 mph. Fastball is heavy with good arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

02/12/2021 - Baseball Factory Spring Training - West Coast (HS) Owen is a coachable LHP/1B prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Spring Training. On the mound, Owen gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and stays inline toward the plate, finishing with his chest square to his target. Owen shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 75mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 61-65mph with 1-7 break. Changeup sits from 67-68mph with arm side run. He gets his hands activated in his load and remains centered in his lower half. He generates fast bat speed through the zone and drives the ball to his pull side. Overall, Owen is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
