Official Scouting Report

  • OF/2BPosition Projection

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Patrick is a strong and compact 2020 OF/2B prospect. In the OF, Patrick has active pre pitch movement, and is aggressive to the ball. He works behind the ball well and gets into a strong throwing position. Having a clean exchange and a quicker release on the ball will allow him to keep runners from advancing bases. At the plate, Patrick starts in an open stance, and gets his hands back into the drive position. He has a middle approach and a solid base. Using the lower half and attacking the inside part of the ball will allow him to drive the ball to all fields. Patrick has a high baseball IQ and makes good decisions on the base path. Patrick will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

05/07/2017 - National Tryout Plus - River Forest (Chicago), IL Patrick continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. He showed in the OF and at 2B for the first time at the event. At the plate, is where he has improved the most through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. In the OF, defensive abilities have improved as well as he displays smooth / clean actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Feet are aggressive as he works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At 2B, he shows smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he works to square balls up. Glove action is soft / sure and he sticks balls well out front. Throws are accurate with carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/29/2016 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Patrick continues to show steady progress in his baseball abilities. On the mound, he shows a repeatable delivery allowing his loose arm to work well to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 65-66 mph with tailing action as he hides the ball well. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Overall, Joshua is a solid young prospect who has to potential develop into a great player.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Patrick is a very coachable, player who makes adjustments quickly. In the OF he takes proper routes / angles and utilizes his feet to track balls down. He works to get behind the ball and plays through well working in-line toward his target. He has a quick exchange and gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. At the plate, hands are quick and work through level swing path and line drive type approach. He shows a feel for the barrel and works to stay inside the ball, driving the ball to the gaps. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 69 mph. He keeps his eyes on the target and repeats his delivery well. Fastball showed life with an 11/5 breaking ball with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches, attacking the zone. With 5 years to further develop, Patrick is a skilled athlete who has a bright future ahead of him in the game.

09/13/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Oak Creek (Milwaukee), WI Patrick is a young (2020 grad) 2-way player as an OF/RHP. With the bat, this righty can swing it as he has power to all fields. Hands are quick as he whips the barrel to and through the zone aggressively and connects with pop. In the OF, he has active footwork, takes good routes and moves well to get into position behind the fly-ball. Exchange is clean with strong/accurate throws into his target. On the mound, Quirk has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He works to a controlled balance point, keeps his shoulders level and works in-line toward the dish. He drives off the rubber with his lower 1/2 and repeats well. FB ranges from 65-68 mph while showing tail. Curveball has 11/5 shape with good depth. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Offense
1. Contact points
2. Relax/loosen grip
3. More lower 1/2 drive
Defense
1. Footwork/agility
2. Play through ball
3. More prep footwork

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
