07/15/2010 - Cape Cod Training 2010 - Session 2 Torres is a quality young man who possesses a tough, hard-nosed work ethic to his approach on the field. He continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and is now a class 6 player. Arm strength has improved as he topped out at 79 mph on the mound with tailing action on his fastball. Pop times have dropped as he hit as low as 2.16. Offensively, hitting grades and power have improved through a line drive type approach.

04/11/2010 - College PREP - Albuquerque, NM Patrick is a young, 2011 graduate that plays Catcher and RHP. Behind the plate, Patrick has okay footwork and quick actions. He shows good athleticism, soft hands, and he receives the ball okay. Defense can improve with better balance, a more consistent arm action, and a looser receiving arm. On the mound, Patrick again shows some athleticism, a loose body, and good balance. He squares his top 1/2 up well, and shows as having average Varsity mechanics. Pitching abilities can improve with better rhythm, a more smooth arm stroke, and better use of his lower 1/2. Offensively, Patrick has average bat speed and barrel accuracy. His top 1/2 works okay and he puts the ball in play. If Patrick can avoid wrapping the bat, keep a still head, and utilize more lower 1/2, we could see a spike in his offensive grades.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
