09/27/2023 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic (2024) Payne continues to show as a top prospect with improvements in his baseball abilities at the Arizonia Senior Fall Classic. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.91 runner. At 3B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth/clean actions. Feet are active as attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft/sure and presents well out front. Throws are accurate with online carry (86 mph velocity) to his target. He utilizes his foot quickness in covering a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine with power potential. Hands are quick (95 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

01/13/2023 - 2023 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament Payne is a solid 3B/RHP in the 2024 class out of Colleyville, TX. In the field, he has active feet and covers his area well. Squares up to the baseball and has solid glove presentation with advanced ball security. His exchanges are clean and gains a quick release from a high ¾ slot. Stays in his legs well and drives to his targets. On the mound, he has easy tempo and simple mechanics. His Fb works both sides of the plate and can cut at 78. His CB sat 66-7 with 11-5 shape. At the plate, he has quick hands and a level path for line drive production. Stays inside his feet well and his timing is smooth. Shows pull side production with some juice at 83 exit velo. Overall, Payne is a two-way prospect with a bright future.

12/02/2022 - Baseball Factory Academic All-American Tournament Payne is an above average 3B/RHP in the 2024 class. In the field, he has athletic feet and a solid base. Has pocket awareness and clean transfers. Gains a short and high ¾ release for accurate feeds that have action across the diamond. Working to sink his hips will allow him to play under the baseball more. On the mound, he shows a fast arm and solid rhythm. His FB topped at 80 with arm side run. His CB has tight spin and sat 63-4. Maintaining a full finish will create more extension and balance to the plate. At the plate, he keeps his hands inside the baseball well for pull side production. Has a balanced set-up and creates barrel accuracy. Getting his backside through will prevent anchoring and increase his full field production. Overall, Payne is a talented athlete and looks to have a strong 2023 season on the diamond.

10/19/2022 - Arizona Easton Fall Classic - Upper Class (2023-2024) Payne continues to show as a prospect in his baseball abilities. At 3B, he displays smooth/clean actions. Feet are active as attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft/sure and presents well out front. Throws are accurate with carry across the diamond. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and works through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. On the mound, delivery is sound/repeatable as he shows good tempo through a strong balance point, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 76-79 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/10/2022 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition (HS) Payne is a 2024 3B/RHP prospect out of Colleyville, TX who improved his skills during the Cape Cod Training and Competition. At 3B, he starts in an athletic ready position, with active feet, and has good body control at the baseball. Good 1st step reads off bat enable him to create good fielding angles as he fields from an athletic/low fielding position. Made accurate throws across diamond from multiple arm slots, with good carry, and an arm velocity up to 83mph. On the mound, he has a good mound presence and battles to put hitters away. He gathers over the rubber, with good rear hip coil, and gets his chest over his front knee. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot and has a quick arm stroke. A 4-pitch pitcher who attacks hitters with a FB that topped out at 74mph, an 11/5 shaped breaking ball, an 11/5 shaped slider with good depth, and a CH with good movement that he throws with FB arm speed. In 2 innings of work, he struck out 2 batters and threw 60% of his pitches for strikes. At the plate, he sets up in an athletic and even stance. Showed smooth timing to his swing, with activated hands, and is centered at contact. He hit hard line drives into both gaps with a bat exit velocity up to 86mph during his round of BP. Overall, Payne is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

03/13/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Highland Park (DFW), TX Payne is a 3B/RHP in the class of 2024 out of Colleyville, TX. At 3B, he was polished with a good prep step and great energy. His feet were active with a good first step and quick hips. He gets low to field the ball with soft hands while presenting the glove early to work through and get his shoulder square to his target to throw. His throws were consistent with carry across the diamond. As a hitter, he uses a tall stance with a strong stride and great intent at the dish. He swings the bat hard with bat speed and likes to get the ball in the air. He displayed gap to gap power with his approach. On the mound, he displayed good mechanics by gathering over the rubber and separating on time in delivery. He showed he had pitchability but could improve his lower half mechanics to get more aggressive and to finish over his front side after extension. His arsenal of pitches proved they could get hitters out due to good movement on the slider and deception on the changeup. Payne is a strong player who can take his game to the next level if he continues to fine tune and progress.

10/06/2021 - Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic Payne is 3B/RHP in the 2024 class out of Colleyville, TX. Defensively, he exhibits athletic footwork and presents the glove well when breaking down for the baseball. His 1st step is quick and allows for him to have good range and his arm carries through first base accurately. Offensively, Payne displayed an athletic stance with high hands and good timing to make hard contact all over the field with gap to gap power. On the mound, he had a good presence with solid mechanics which allowed him to throw over 50% strikes. He's a hard worker who's coachable and hustles. Payne is a promising prospect and a player to keep an eye on in the future.

09/16/2021 - Pathway AZ Upperclass - 18U Payne is a coachable 3B/RHP prospect who showcased his skills during the Pathway tournament. In the field, Payne makes the routine plays and makes strong throws with carry through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a wide stance with comfortable hands. He hits against a strong front side and produces strong line drives. On the mound, Payne gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and stays inline toward the plate, driving his back leg through. Payne operates with a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 78mph. Breaking ball sits from 64-66mph with 10-4 break. Overall, Payne is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

07/19/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Highland Park (DFW), TX Payne is a 3B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2024. Tall frame, with high waist, athletic build and room to fill out. At 3B, showed efficient feet and ability to center baseball. Quick arm action, with ability to throw from multiple arm slots, and throws with intent. On-line throws, with a quick release, and an arm velocity of 82mph across diamond. A right-handed pitcher who has long levers and a projectible frame. He gathers over rubber, with high handset at balance point, and separates his hands on time. Flashes pitchability on all 4 pitches and all 4 pitches were around the zone during his bullpen. Throws a FB that sits 76-77mph. Mixes in an 11/5 shaped breaking ball and slider with same shape and better depth. Fourth pitch is a developing changeup he throws with FB arm speed and tailing action through the zone. SL was best pitch during his bullpen. A right-handed hitter with a square and athletic stance. Square stride, with good hip rear coil, and good barrel control. Flashed a fast bat as he hit line drives to all fields with a bat exit velocity of 86mph during BP. With continued growth and development, we see him having a bright future on the baseball field.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
