Official Scouting Report

02/21/2011 - College PREP - Freeport, NY Peter is a short and thick, two-way player graduating in 2012. Defensively at catcher, he has good receiving abilities - letting the ball travel, is quiet and gets around the ball well. Blocking wise he shows good angles, anticipation and covers a lot of ground. He needs to continue to strengthen his arm and work on a quicker release during his throws. At 1B he has good hands, active feet, and accurate throws. Offensively, Peter has a squared stance with a good load and short stride. He shows good rhythm and balance throughout the swing. He needs to continue to work on getting more use out of his lower half. He tends to collapse on his back side which is caused by him getting his front foot down too late. Improvements will happen offensively with work in these areas.

07/20/2010 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ LoDuca continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 8.19 runner. Defensive abilities at 1B have improved as he showed plus footwork around the bag displaying a solid glove action. He still projects best as a catcher where he has shown above average defensive skills both in his receiving and blocking, with above average hands and footwork. Offensively, hitting grades and power have improved through a balanced solid setup. Swing path is level and he shows a solid feel for the barrel. We like his approach, especially if he can keep his swing path short and not drop his hands.

06/17/2010 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Peter is a catcher/1B with outstanding make up. He is a leader onfield and a hard worker. Behind the plate, Peter holds a good target and has good hands receiving the baseball. He handles his Pitchers well, calls a good game, and overall does a nice job for his current age. Peter sets his body well and delivers the ball with a good arm action to his target. Defensive abilities can further improve with a quicker release and added arm strength. Offensively, Peter is a contact hitter with a flat bat path. He currently is mostly a singles hitter who puts the ball in play. If Peter can stay balanced with his pre pitch set up, and get a better feel for the strike zone, offensive tool grades can further improve with age. With two years remaining, we know Peter will continue to work hard to improve his game.

11/05/2009 - Pirate City Select Training Peter continues to show a solid feel at the plate as his hands work well through the zone, displaying a solid feel for the barrel in making consistent contact. Swing path is level but he needs to let the ball travel, keeping hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. As a catcher, he needs to work his feet more in line to his target, maintaining solid body control. He displays a feel for the game with instincts and leadership abilities.

08/23/2009 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Peter is a young, 2012 graduate that shows as a catcher and at 1B with a solid body with projection as he continues to polish and firm up. Foot speed is well below average and he needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active displaying proper foot work around the bag. Glove action is soft and sure in making the plays displaying near average defensive abilities. Arm strength is near average and he must get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, lowering pop times. Pop times are in the 2.55-2.68 range. Hands and feet work well together showing proper direction with pop times lowering as more arm strength is developed. Receiving skills are slightly above average with near average blocking skills. He shows a quiet setup and has an idea with his receiving. Blocking needs further development to play at the next level. At the plate, hitting abilities are near average with below average power through a balanced approach. He shows a feel for the barrel but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential at the plate with grades improving with instruction and adjustments. With 3 years to further develop, LoDuca has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
