11/07/2010 - College PREP - Shreveport, LA Peyton is a solid, projectable, 2-way player that Pitches and plays OF. He currently projects better on the mound as he enters his Senior year. On the hill, Peyton attacks the zone with a heavy FB clocked at 82 MPH. He has a long, loose arm action, good balance, and on-time separation. Peyton works in good rhythm, repeats his delivery, and he has good direction toward home plate. Peyton has a good mix of off-speed pitches and can throw them all for strikes. Peyton can improve his mound effectiveness by keeping his eyes to his target longer, getting on top of his CB, and by adding arm strength. In the OF, Peyton has firm hands, playable feet, and he tracks the ball well. He attacks the ball aggressively, covers some ground, and squares his body well to his target. Peyton has a quick arm action and throws accurately with carry to his target. If Peyton can quicken his release, and add arm strength we could see a spike in OF tool grades. Offensively, Peyton has a square set-up, direct hands to the ball, and has good bat speed. He makes hard, consistent contact, he has a line drive approach, and can spray the ball to all fields. Peyton has a rhythmic swing, and if he can improve his load, and create backspin, offensive numbers can improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
