Official Scouting Report

01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Peyton continues to show an ability to be a successful two-way player. Behind the dish, he is flexible and has a low setup. He is an exceptional blocker and moves well laterally. His hands are sure and he has a quick/clean exchange. At the dish, his square setup, level swing path, and quick hands allow him to deliver the barrel consistently to contact. Controlling his front foot will allow him to utilize his contact points. On the mound, Peyton throws two pitches for strikes with his fastball topping off at 82 MPH. His 11/5 curve-ball has sharp/late break and is especially effective when he throws his fastball confidently early. He projects well at either position at the next level, with a game-changing curve-ball that makes him desirable on the mound.

11/11/2012 - College PREP - Shreveport, LA In Peyton's most recent Factory event, he showed drastic improvements in several areas of his game. Defensively behind the dish, he threw accurately with carry/life from over top arm slot. He has a good/athletic setup and is athletic in his blocking technique. His hands are soft/sure, footwork is fluid, and he has natural instincts. Peyton's pop times will improve from 2.1 - 2.2 when he quickens his exchange, and his blocking will improve when he becomes quicker to drop to the ball. On the mound, he throws a fastball and an 11/5 curve-up, both for strikes, with his curve-ball having sharp break. He throws from the high 3/4 arm slot with short/loose arm action with good extension front side. He gets to a controlled balance point, but is slightly late with his separation. He maintains level shoulders, stays inline to the dish, lands on the balls of his feet and has a complete/athletic finish. Trusting his good/smooth rhythm/tempo, and trusting his curve-ball will make him a more complete pitcher. Offensively, he has a square/athletic setup, decent stride/load, centered balance, on-plane swing path, and makes consistently hard contact. He generates fast bat speed and has fluid rhythm with line-drive/gap-to-gap ability. Implementing more load and being sure to stay direct to the ball, not casting, will increase his hitting ability. Overall, Peyton continues to show progress and we believe will make a good prospect in the next year as a primary catcher, that can throw strikes effectively, if thrown on the mound.

06/22/2012 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Peyton is a catcher/RHP with an accurate arm from behind the plate. On the mound he has a long arm action and works downhill to get good extension over his front side. His abilities on the mound will improve as he continues to develop an off-speed arsenal. Behind the plate he sticks each pitch well thanks to his sure hands and has plenty of carry on his throws to second base. His defensive abilities should continue to develop as he learns to present an earlier target and invests in a strong agility program. At the plate he has strong balance and engages his lower half well allowing him to produce his gap-to-gap power. His offensive tools should continue to improve as he learns to quiet his head and allow the ball to travel deeper in the hitting zone on a consistent basis. As a 2014 graduate Peyton has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
