12/15/2024 - National Showcase - Indianapolis, IN Phil, a 2028 outfielder from Cincinnati, OH, has a tall frame and lean build, with plenty of room to add strength as he continues to develop. In the outfield, he works hard to position himself behind the baseball, showing the ability to make routine plays with a firm glove and solid fundamentals. His throws come from a high three-quarter arm slot, and his arm velocity reaches up to 71 mph. At the plate, Phil starts in a crouched, open stance and has smooth timing, consistently making center contact with good barrel control. He squares up baseballs to all fields during batting practice, showcasing his potential as a well-rounded hitter. As a developing freshman, Phil still has plenty of time to improve in all areas of his game, and his continued growth will make him an exciting player to watch in the coming years.

08/08/2024 - All-Ripken Games - Cleveland, OH Phil is an athletic 3B who showcased his skills as a prospect at the All Ripken Games. At third base, he moves with smooth, fluid actions, using his active feet to get behind the ball and maintain momentum toward his target. His glove work is clean and presents well out front, and his quick footwork allows him to cover a lot of ground. While his throws are accurate, increasing arm strength through a long toss program will enhance his overall defensive play. At the plate, Phil demonstrates a squared setup with a solid approach. His quick hands drive through a level swing path, effectively using all fields. He shows strength in his swing and has a good feel for the barrel. With time and room to develop, Phil has significant potential to elevate his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
