07/17/2008 - Cape Cod Training 2008 - Week 2 Satterwhite showed a fastball between 78 and 81, along with a 71-72 curve and good feel for a tailing changeup. His delivery was balanced, and his arm worked well out front. He did a good job of working hitters, and stayed around the zone for the most part. Can work to stay closed more with his front side, to lengthen his arm stroke on the back side, and to stay on top of his off speed pitches better. Showed good bat speed at the plate, and was fairly athletic in his setup and swing. Must work to shorten his stroke, and to keep the ball out of the air. Improved his 60-yard dash, down from 7.87 to 7.60.

12/27/2007 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2007 Satterwhite topped at 84 on the mound, a little higher than we had seen before. He also showed a tight breaking ball with 10-4 shape and good feel for his changeup. Has some feel to pitch, as long as he avoids tendency to overthrow. At the plate, he showed good bat speed and lower half action for the most part. Can work to shorten swing a bit, and to stay on outside pitches longer. Behind the plate, he has enough arm strength to improve his release times, just needs to improve his footwork and exchange.

10/21/2007 - ACR-E-Maryland 11 Phillip brought a good work ethic with him to the field. On the mound, attacked the zone while being under control and using same arm speed on all pitches. Kept front side closed which improved deception. Would like to see him keep eyes on target at all times and follow-thru to home plate, not 1B. Short arms ball on back side and lacks explosion with lower half. Behind the plate, good base allowed for good angles to block. Centered ball well. Would like to see him eliminate glove flip to take more direct to blocking ball. Gets in proper throwing position with decent carry and accurate throws. Catch-step-throw instead of catch-stand up-throw will quicken exchange. At the plate, good setup allowed for line-drive approach.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
