01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Scott showed a good feel for the outfield. He was aggressive yet under control. He took proper routes and angles to the ball, and showed good footwork to throw. His throws had good life from his hand, and carried on line to the target. At the plate, he flashed quick hands and did a good job using all fields. His path was level, and generated line drive contact. When his head stayed up he was more fluid and connected through the zone. He has an athletic build with length at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, and was aggressive on the bases - more evidence of usable speed. Overall, combination of usable speed, solid left handed stroke and enough glove / arm to play all three OF spots.

07/23/2012 - 2012 Team One Northeast Showcase At Team One Northeast, Phillip displayed an aggressive approach in the outfield, along with the ability to play through the baseball and make accurate throws to the infield. His defensive abilities should continue to develop as he learns to create more follow through, getting a little something extra on his throws. At the plate, he has an athletic setup and short stride, along with a good idea of how to engage his lower half, helping him to achieve a level path to contact. His offensive tools should continue to improve as he learns to create some extension through contact. As a 2013 graduate, Phillip has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

06/06/2012 - Under Armour Southeast Regional Tournament Scott showed similar abilities as we had previously seen at Team One Northeast and shows as a solid player at the next level. In the OF, he utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in trackng down balls. He reads balls well of the bat and shows plus range. Throws are accurate with on line carry into his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, Philip shows an athletic setup with good rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a very coachable and works hard to be the best he can be.

07/24/2011 - Team One Northeast 2011 Philip showed quick feet, good range, and aggressiveness to the ball during Team One. He plays through the ball, fields it cleanly, and his actions are loose. Philip works behind the ball well and delivers it accurately to his target. Offensively, Philip showed good balance, a level swing, and good bat speed. The ball jumps off his bat, he has pop to the pull side, and he battles well at the plate.

06/23/2011 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 2 Philip is a young, talented outfielder who will graduate in 2013. Defensively, Philip has quick feet, a good first step, and takes good routes and angles to the baseball. He lays out for the ball, catches the ball at its highest point, and fields ground balls from the right. Philip has a good crow hop to his target and delivers the ball with life and accuracy. Staying behind fly balls and throwing more downhill will only help solid defensive numbers get even better. Offensively, Philip has a good set-up, a still head, and plus bat speed. He knows the zone, puts the ball in play, and has pop into the gaps. Hitting can improve by not diving to the ball, keeping his hands high, and having more hip rotation.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
