01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Pierson participated in the UA Preseason All-America as a middle INF, and showed similar skills as he did at Team One 2009. He is a lean, athletic player with a good base. Pierson has good hands, feet, and a soft glove. He takes good angles to the baseball, fields it smoothly, and works well around the bag. Pierson has an accurate arm to his target, and he can improve by getting lower to the ground sooner, and work more on the balls of his feet. Offensively, Peirson has good balance and bat speed. He is a line drive hitter with a level swing path. Added physical strength, and staying on the baseball should help hitting grades continue to improve.

07/12/2009 - Team One South 2009 Pierson continues to excel as a middle infielder. In the INF, had quick feet which allowed him to move laterally so he could get in front and play thru ground balls. Showed good presentation but would like to see him field the ball little more out front. As his arm speed increases, arm strength and velocity will improve. At the plate, demonstrated the ability to keep hands inside ball which allowed him to hit line drives all over the field. Showed some gap power and will improve as his swing is level thru zone to create proper spin on ball.

08/31/2008 - College PREP - Nashville, TN Pierson improved his arm strength, now touching 81 mph at the arm strength station. Also, improved his 60 time cutting 3 tenths, now at 7.22. He only showed in the middle of the infield at the event. He displayed quick feet showing solid lateral movement. Glove action is soft, sure, and solid in making all the plays. He does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength. His throws are accurate through a loose arm action. Power numbers will increase as he learns to transfer weight from the backside into a firm front side through the lower half. With 2 years to further develop, Waring will catch the eyes of the college coaches with his baseball abilities.

07/10/2008 - Cape Cod Training 2008 - Week 1 Waring showed good rhythm to hit, thanks to a short and controlled load and good balance throughout his setup and swing. His path was level, and he showed good barrel accuracy. Can work to keep his front shoulder in more consistently, and needs to keep the ball out of the air. Defensively, he showed quick and efficient feet. His hands were sure and he showed plenty of arm for 2B. Can work to quicken his release, both on routine plays and double plays. Overall, a talented player with potential to be a solid prospect.

06/19/2008 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - 2008 Pierson has a good aptitude of the game and made appropriate adjustments as instructed. At the plate, has average bat speed with ability to use all fields. He knows the strike zone and makes appropriate adjustments when he has 2 strikes on him. At times, spins off ball so he does not extend thru. In the INF, made all the routine plays with pretty good range. Showed good body control with an accurate arm. Would like to see him soften hands to field ball cleanly and long toss will help improve arm strength.

12/27/2007 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2007 Waring ran a better 60-yard dash at this event, lowering his best time down from 7.49 to 7.35. He also showed good infield actions, along with good hands and a quick exchange to catch and throw. Can work to clean up his angles to the ball, along with his positioning. At the plate, he battled and proved to be a tough out. His bat speed was among his offensive strengths, and he showed the ability to use the whole field. Balance can improve, along with core strength.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
