08/29/2024 - All-Ripken Games - Baltimore, MD Preston, an athletic left-handed hitter who excels as a shortstop (SS), outfielder (OF), and right-handed pitcher (RHP), showcased his impressive feel for the game during the Ripken event in Maryland. His fluid fielding, strong pitching performance, and power at the plate caught the attention of scouts. Defensively: Preston has fluid actions in the field and is regarded as a trusted defender, displaying consistency and athleticism. His arm plays at 52 mph velocity, allowing him to handle numerous positions effectively, showing versatility and reliability. On the Mound: Preston’s clean and simple delivery is repeatable, showing strong mechanics on the mound. He worked an inning and a third with excellent results, controlling the game with confidence. His fastball sat between 58-62 mph, and his breaking pitch ranged from 51-53 mph, giving him a solid pitch mix that kept hitters off balance. At the Plate: Preston is a competitor at the plate, hunting the fastball early and demonstrating raw power with a 64 mph exit velocity. Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
