Official Scouting Report

12/27/2023 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Preston continues to impress with improvements in his baseball abilities at the Pirate City Christmas tournament. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean and presents out front. He shows a quick exchange and gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy / carry (82 mph velocity) on his throws. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a solid approach and creates extension through the ball. Hands are quick (and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. Hips and hands work well through the swing. At the event, he was 3 for 5 with a 2 2B. On the mound, fastball showed in the upper 70s and he is not afraid to pitch inside. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with tight spin and sweeping action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight cutting action. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

08/06/2023 - National Showcase - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Preston is a 2025 1B/LHP prospect with a strong lower half at 5'10" 210 pounds. At first, he does a good job getting a prep step and centers the ball when fielding, doing a nice job of squaring the ball up and presenting his hands out in front. The ball really sticks in his glove when receiving. His exchange is clean and he makes accurate throws to his target with an easy arm action from a high 3/4 slot. He creates momentum to his targets and recorded a raw velo of 80 MPH. He executes his double play feeds well, giving his MIF an easy turn. At the plate, he starts in an athletic stance and has an on-time stride. He has a firm frontside with his lower half and an on-plane swing path, making hard consistent contact. He's a free swinger that really attacks the baseball and shows some pop to the opposite field. He recorded a max exit velo of 82 MPH. On the mound, he gets to a good balance point over the rubber and does a nice job of getting his lower half involved. He has a good hand rhythm with a good frontside glove and extends through his release point. He has a proper stride length for his frame and finishes with his chest over his front knee. His FB reached a velo of 78 MPH and showed some run, and he exhibited good deception with his CH. Overall, Preston is an exciting prospect that should continue to develop his baseball skills as he continues to rack up experience!

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
