07/24/2014 - College PREP - Anchorage, AK Preston is a lanky, athletic SS/OF that will graduate in 2015. He shows a solid defender at both positions. At SS, feet are active / aggressive as he moves well laterally, works to center ball up, and plays through with his body. Hands are clean and he presents well out front but needs to utilize two hands more through the fielding process. In the OF, he continues to be aggressive in taking proper routes /angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases his foot quickness. Throws are accurate / flashing carry as he works to get rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power numbers will increase as he learns to use his lower half more. Preston has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
