12/05/2010 - College PREP - Cedar Hill, TX Preston is a young, thick, 2-way player with good skills. At 3rd base, Preston has firm hands, fluid feet, and a quick exchange. He fields the ball athletically, takes good angles, and he plays through properly. Preston has a long / loose arm and throws with some life and carry to his target. In the OF, Preston again shows soft hands and good / fluid feet. He has good range, he works behind the ball well, and he plays through properly. Preston has a long / loose arm with good accuracy to his target. If Preston can quicken his instincts, and use 2 hands to catch, OF skills can get better. Offensively, Preston has a tall / open stance, good load, and proper balance. He lets the ball travel, his bat speed is very good, and he makes hard contact. Preston has a rhythmic swing, a line drive approach, and he gets good extension through the ball.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
