01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 12-14) Preston is a coachable RHP/SS prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Spring Training in Arizona. On the mound, Preston starts with a simple rock step and gathers over the rubber. He separates his hands on time and works with a loose arm, extending through his release. Preston shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 61mph. Breaking ball sits from 50-51mph with 10-4 break. Staying inline towards the plate can help Preston improve as a pitcher. In the field, Preston takes a good first step and displays quick footwork. He fields in an athletic position and makes a clean exchange. He gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with life through his target. Preston can improve defensively by fielding the ball out in front of his body. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He gets into his load on time and is explosive driving his lower half through. He takes a smooth swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud contact and solid line drives. Continuing to add strength can help Preston improve as a hitter. With six more years to develop, Preston has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
