12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory West Coast Winter Classic (Ages 12-14) Racen is a coachable SS/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the West Coast Winter Classic. In the field, Racen takes a good first step and shows smooth footwork. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate to his target. Long tossing to build up his arm strength can help Racen improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He is on time getting into a smooth load and remains centered in his lower half. He takes a short swing with decent bat speed, leading to consistent line drives. Racen can improve as a hitter by maintaining center balance throughout his swing. On the mound, Racen shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 69mph. Breaking ball sits from 55-58mph with 11-5 break. Lengthening his arm action can help Racen improve as a pitcher. With four more years to develop, Racen has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

12/27/2018 - 2018 Inaugural West Coast Winter Classic - La Verne, CA Racen is an athletic and talented 2024 2-way prospect with high energy. At SS, Racen is on time with his prep step and has good feeds on double plays. He needs to present a low/early glove, work from the ground up, and improve his first step to the ball. Continuing to have a clean exchange and throwing from multiple arm angles will improve his overall game. At the plate, Racen starts in a squared stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and has explosive hands to the ball. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball, stay balanced through contact, and creates backside rotation with his lower half. On the bump, Racen shows good mound presence and has god feel for his breaking ball. He gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and has a clean arm stroke. He gets run on his fastball and works over his front side. Racen will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

08/19/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI Racen is a lean, athletic, 2-way player who plays SS and RHP. Defensively, Racen has efficient footwork, he presents his glove well, and he fields in a square position. He gets good glove extension, keeps his eyes to the ball, and has a clean exchange with consistency from a short arm action to his target. On the mound, Racen has a balanced delivery, a quick arm action, and he gets good extension on his pitches. He lands in a square position and uses his lower body. At the plate, Racen has a square set-up, a short stride, and he swings aggressively. He loads well, has good bat speed, and he uses his lower body. Racen can improve solid overall skills with work on the following.

Defense
1. Pre-pitch
2. Attack aggressively
3. Follow throws
Pitching
1. Tempo
2. Off-speed
3. Long toss
Offense

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
