11/11/2010 - Pirate City Select Training Ralph showed similar skills at both positions during his time at Pirate City. On the mound, Ralph showed solid balance, a short arm action, and good extension. He has an average overall delivery, he mixes his pitches well, and he competes in the zone. He needs to improve his arm speed, avoid rushing to the plate, and become more aggressive in order to get better. At SS, Ralph didn't get many balls hit his way during game play, but he showed decent skills during drill work. He will need to raise his arm slot and continue to improve his flexibility to improve INF skills. Offensively, Ralph showed the ability to square the ball up in drills and during batting practice. He needs to avoid spinning off the baseball, add strength, and maintain a still head to raise hitting numbers.

08/22/2010 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Ralph is a tall, thin, RHP that will graduate in 2011. On the mound, Ralph has good direction toward the plate and he keeps his eyes to his target well. He gets good separation, gets to his balance point well, and he competes in the strike zone. Ralph will need to add arm strength, firm up his backside, and improve his glove side lead in order to get better on the hill. At the plate, Ralph stays inside the ball and gets decent extension. He shows a line drive / middle approach and he puts the ball in play. Added physical strength and a shorter stride should help offensive numbers further improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
