RJ is a tall, lean C/1B who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying well above average hitting abilities with solid power potential. Hands are quick through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and utilizes his lower half with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power shows best to the pull side. Behind the plate, hands / feet work well together through a clean transfer / exchange in getting rid of the baseball. Pop times show a range of 2.35-2.39 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft and he tracks balls well through the receiving process. He uses his body well through the blocking and is a wall behind the plate. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure but will benefit by presenting more out front. Feet are active as he attacks balls, playing through well. Range will increase as he works to increase foot quickness. With 3 years to further develop, RJ has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.
