07/20/2010 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Randy is a catcher that shows projection as he continues to physically mature, filling out. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.33 60 time. He utilizes his quick feet well in gaining ground but needs to work more directional to his target. He gets rid of the baseball quickly through an efficient transfer / exchange with pop times showing a range of 2.31-2.47. Throws show accuracy but needs to get on a long toss program to provide more carry, lowering pop times. Receiving and blocking skills are average, needing further development to be quality tools at the next level. Offensively, Squier shows a solid setup, showing a level swing path but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving with instruction and adjustments. Randy has abilities with room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
