05/16/2010 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX This is rhe second time seeing Reece, as he attended the UA National Tryout in 2009. In one year, we saw a major jump in almost every category. As catcher, he showed 50 arm strength. He has life out of the hand and good accuracy to the bag. He uses his body very well to generate velocity. As he shortens his arm action, he will see another improvement in pop time to 2B. He presents a solid base when receiving and good overall glove action. He uses his body well when blocking, but tends to keeps glove up which gives the ball some daylight to get through. This is an easy mechanical adjustment. Offensively, he gets himself into a very solid hitting position. He stays inside the ball well and consistently hits line drives to the middle of the field. He has strong potential for gap power. He over rotates on occasion and spins off the ball. A more efficient attack with his lower half will aid in helping him develop that gap power. He is direct to the ball and stays flat in the zone with his barrel. He improved in all speed categories from a year ago and should continue to climb in all tool grades as he keeps working.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
