03/10/2013 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN RJ is an athletic OF that will graduate in 2014. Foot speed is superior as indicated by his 6.70 60 time. He utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind, playing through well with momentum to his target through an aggressive approach. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and reads balls well off the bat. Throws displays accuracy and carry as he stays behind the ball well. At the plate, Howell shows an athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are quick / strong, flashing bat speed through a short / direct / level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with power numbers improving as he learns to use his lower half more. RJ has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
