Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2010 - Christmas Camp and Tournament 2010 - Session 2 Gorrell showed similar overall abilities at the Christmas Camp as he did in Marlborough, MA. Behind the plate, Richard has good feet, playable hands, and he blocks the baseball well. He has an athletic build, good direction to his Pitcher, and he throws with accuracy to his target. On the mound, Richard has a long / loose arm action and a repeatable delivery. He works ahead of hitters, he mixes his pitches in and out, and he fills the zone with strikes. Offensively, Richard has a short / quick swing, good strike zone awareness, and he puts the ball in play. He is a Coachable hitter, who plays hard, and who wants to get better.

10/24/2010 - College PREP - Marlborough (Boston), MA Richard is a lean, athletic, 2-way player that Catches and Pitches. Behind the plate, Richard holds a low target, has quiet actions, and he works around the ball well. He covers the "5" hole when blocking, gets up athletically, and has a good exchange from glove to hand. Richard has good direction toward his target, he stays low when throwing, and delivers the ball accurately with average arm strength to 2nd base. Catching abilities can get better with a wider base, staying closed when throwing, and adding arm strength. On the mound, Richard has a compact delivery, he stays low in the zone, and he delivers the ball with A/S run. His off-speed pitches are sound, and he is quick to home from the stretch position. Improved command and added arm strength will help mound effectiveness get better. Offensively, Richard is can switch hit, and is about equal from both sides. From the right side, he has a square set-up, average bat speed, and some pop in his bat when properly centered. A looser grip and more direct hands to the ball should help rightly numbers improve. From the left side, Richard has good balance, he tracks the ball well, and makes consistent contact. More live hands and a shorter swing will help left handed numbers rise.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
