01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (FL) Rick is an athletic (5'10"/175) 2-way prospect (OF/RHP) who can make things happen in a variety of ways on the diamond. In the OF, he has active prep and takes a quick first step getting good reads off of the barrel. He works behind and through the ball aggressively, gaining ground toward his target. Transfer is clean with accuracy on his throws. As a hitter, this righty shows a balanced/closed stance with patience waiting for a pitch he likes. Swing is direct/on-plane to and through the zone as he connects and drives the ball on a line. Powell also has the ability to get onto the mound and compete. He works to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and keeps his shoulders in-line toward the dish. FB tops out at 81 mph while showing good tailing action. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with good action. CH is thrown with FB arm speed, complimenting his FB well. He pounds the zone and works to get ahead, challenging hitters to swing the bat. A solid all-around 2022 prospect, Powell has the tools that will provide success in this his junior season.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
