06/28/2008 - ACR-E - Maryland - 4 Ricky is a fast, athletically built OF/LHP. Ran a 6.90 60-yard dash. In the OF, showed loose actions and ability to get in proper throwing position which produced good carry on ball. His quick feet allowed him to take great angle to ball. Would like to see him keep fingers on top of ball because some throws created arm-side run. Drifts at times back on balls which doesn't allow him to get behind ball properly. At the plate, showed a level path to zone with some juice. Ball comes off bat well. Would like to see him finish his swing. Cuts off his swing after contact which doesn't allow any extension. On the mound, attacked zone with FB that showed some arm-side run. Showed good glove side lead, lower half explosion, and good tempo to keep fielders in game. Long toss will help improve arm strength. At times, slows arm-speed with CB which makes arm drag. When lower half drifts out, gets bad direction and finishes towards 3B.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
