09/19/2010 - College PREP - Santa Barbara, CA Rico is a young 2B with a strong lower half and athletic looking frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Feet are active and aggressive in coming to get, playing through the baseball with his body as he presents hands out front but needs to play more under control at times. He moves well laterally, displaying range as he shows a soft, sure backhand. Throws are accurate, flashing carry as he will benefit by getting on a long toss program to further develop more arm strength and carry. Offensively, Caravalho works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields as he makes consistent contact but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential with grades improving quickly with instruction and adjustments. With 2 years to further develop, Rico has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
