10/28/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures West Riley once again performed well at a Baseball Factory event. His 6'3"/215-pound frame has the strength you would expect, and also flashes athleticism. His right-handed stroke generates good bat speed that combines with leverage to generate present power. He posted an exit velocity of 93 mph and made some loud contact during batting practice. At 1B Riley moves well, has good hands and provides a good target for the rest of the infield. Committed to Air Force, Riley is a hard worker with a chance to be a middle-of-the-order bat at the next level.

06/03/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Riley is a talented 1B/RHP who has an athletic, projectable frame and versatile skill set. Offensively, Riley has a square setup with a centered balanced and firm front side. He has smooth rhythm with a good load and short stride. Riley has a short swing path with good whip and gets extension at contact. He has a line drive approach and produces hard, consistent contact. In the field, Riley plays with active footwork and an aggressive approach. He fields the ball in a square position and keeps everything in front of him. Riley has a long, loose arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. His throws have good carry across the diamond. On the mound, Riley has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He keeps his head on his target and stays square to home plate with the proper stride length. He does a nice job rotating with his core finishing towards his target. Riley has good cut on his fastball at 80-81 MPH and his curveball has medium break at 11-5 o'clock. He also features a deceptive changeup with sink movement. Overall, Riley has the right approach on both sides of the ball and high upside to get even better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
