06/23/2018 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Bobby is an athletic and talented 2019 2-way player. At 1B, Robert has an efficient prep step and fields his position well. He has a clean exchange and has good footwork on double plays. Continuing to be more aggressive on fly balls and understanding positioning will elevate his game to the next level. At the plate, Bobby starts in a squared stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He uses his lower half, gets extension thru the zone, and stays balanced thru contact. On the bump, Bobby gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and extends thru his release point. He has a strong glove side and works north to south. Continuing to keep his eyes on target and repeating his delivery will allow him to be more consistent in the strike zone. Bobby is a hard worker and will continue to improve with experience.

02/04/2018 - College PREP - Houston, TX Bobby is a tall, strongly-built (6', 215) two-way player with a projectable frame. He has a strong arm that flashes both at first and on the mound. He shows efficient feet at first and has good awareness around the bag to field and receive. His hands are soft to pick the ball and he makes strong, accurate feeds. At the dish, he has a strong base that generates bat speed and power to the pull side. He is smooth from the left side and makes consistent, square contact with feel for the barrel. On the bump, he shows a three-pitch mix with a low 70's fastball, 10-4 slider and deceptive changeup. Working on his tempo down the mound will result in more velocity and consistent command. Bobby is an intriguing prospect we want to keep an eye on.

11/10/2016 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Bobby continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 74 mph. He shows a sound/repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose/free to the plate. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on the pitch. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches, changing speeds well. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Feet are active and display a clean glove but will benefit by presenting hands more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic/squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and works to stay inside the ball, flashing gap to gap pop. Mental makeup is a plus as he competes on the field and is a hard worker.

11/15/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Houston, TX Robert is a a young, 2-way player as a RHP/1B. On the mound, he has a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot and loose/free arm action. He maintains level shoulders and works in-line toward the dish. FB tops out at 64 mph while showing slight cut. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape while changeup is thrown with FB arm speed. At the plate, this LHH shows an open stance with good balance. He squares the ball up and creates extension through contact. At 1B, Simmons takes a quick first step as he works into a square fielding position. He fields the ball cleanly and gives accurate DP feeds. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
