01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Evans continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Defensive abilities have really improved, now showing well above average. He attacks ground balls and plays through well with his body, displaying soft / sure hands. He needs to work to improve foot quickness to continue to improve grade. Throws are accurate with on line carry across the diamond as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he loads well and uses his lower half well with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Hands are quick / smooth and work through a level swing bat and works to keep hands / barrel above the ball. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 80-82 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball has improved, displaying 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both sides of the plate.

10/06/2012 - 2012 Team One Texas Showcase Robert is a lanky, athletic RHP that will graduate in 2015. Delivery is sound, showing repeatable mechanics that allows his arm action to work long, loose, and free to the plate. He works through a strong balance point with a smooth separation and fluid actions. Arm strength is solid as he topped out at 84 mph. Fastball showed a range of 79-84 mph with arm side run and sink. Breaking ball displays 10/5 shape with late bite. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a solid feel for with late sink. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches, attacking hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. With 3 years to further develop, Evans has an upside on the mound and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

09/19/2012 - Under Armour Fall Classic Evans showed as a two-way player on the mound and at SS. At SS, foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.30 60 time. Feet are active as he attacks ground balls and displays soft / clean hands. He needs to stay low and play through balls to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate with carry across the diamond through a clean exchange. At the plate, Robert shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He has leverage in his swing with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Barrel accuracy is a plus through an aggressive approach. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 3 for 6. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 80-83 mph. Changeup showed as best off speed pitch, displaying a feel for with sinking action. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude and solid feel for the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
