01/25/2015 - National Tryout - San Diego, CA This 2017 grad continues to develop on the diamond. With the bat, he shows fluid rhythm to work back into a loaded position. Swing is level as he connects and hits line drives. Letting his upper & lower work together will help to improve contact consistency. At SS, Robert hustles into a square fielding position and tracks the GB into his mitt. He gathers well and works in-line toward 1B with accurate throws across the diamond. On the mound, FB now ranges from 76-78 mph as he works it to both sides of the plate. He drives off the rubber and works downhill toward the dish. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with gradual action. More glove-side lead and glove tuck will keep everything compact and improve effectiveness on both pitches. Robert is a hard worker who still has time to develop his skills.

01/26/2014 - National Tryout - San Diego, CA Robert continues to work hard and develop his game. Defensively at SS, he is aggressive as he comes to get the ground ball. He plays through it, working from right to left and in-line toward 1B. At the plate, this righty shows a quiet approach with smooth actions. He sits back, waits for his pitch, and squares the ball up. On the bump, Robert keeps works to a controlled balance point and in-line toward the dish. He fills up the zone and throws strikes with all 3 pitches. He has a repeatable delivery and works at a good tempo. Only a 2017 grad - Robert has a lot of time and will only continue to improve.

10/23/2013 - Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic Robert improved his offensive skill-set during his time in Arizona. He displays patience and lets the ball travel into the zone, waiting for his pitch. He hits the ball where it's pitched and drives it to all fields. He gets the barrel to and through the zone quickly with plus bat speed. He puts the ball in play consistently as he has 3 singles at the event. At SS, he shows good pre-pitch movement and works to get into a square fielding position. He is sure handed and fields the ball cleanly. Robert is a hard worker who will only continue to develop his game.

12/27/2012 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Vero Beach Robert is a "gamer" who can get it done in the field, on the mound, and at the plate. At shortstop Robert is fundamentally sound and very versatile. With a plus arm and athleticism he can make every play. Robert could complete the package with work on back-hand plays in the hole, throwing on the run, and turning a double play when the ball is hit to his right. On the mound Robert challenges the hitters by being consistent in the strike zone. He has a high 3/4 release which allows for some arm-side run on his fastball. His slider has sharp and late action thrown with fastball arm speed. Robert could improve his separation and using his lower half more to improve his velocity as well as improving his finish to follow through more athletically. Offensively Robert is a fundamentally sound hitter with strong, consistent hard contact. He has gap power, being very balanced and using his lower half well. Robert needs to continue working on having a specific hitting approach. With continued work Robert will be an impact player in the future!

08/07/2012 - Interactive Video Program - San Diego, CA Robert is an athletic, 2-way player who play SS and RHP. Defensively, Robert has sure hands, active feet, and he fields in a low / athletic position. He picks out good hops, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a loose / quick arm with life to his target. On the mound, Robert has a long arm action, on-time separation, and good direction toward home. He has good glove side lead and finishes in a complete position. Offensively, Robert has a square set-up, he makes consistent contact, and he swings in good rhythm. He stays inside the ball and gets his lower 1/2 through. Abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Play through more
2. Gain ground to throw
Pitching
1. Keep head still
2. Balance point
3. Long toss
Offense
1. Loosen grip
2. Level off swing
3. Stay tall

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
