04/21/2013 - College PREP - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Thompson improved his defensive grade at SS. Feet are quick, active as he works to get around ground balls and plays through well. He moves well laterally and displays smooth actions with hands / feet working well together. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Robert displays quick hands that work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to stay short and not lift off. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered.

08/04/2010 - Pirate City World Series 2010 - Session 1 Robert is a young (2014) SS with a tall, athletic frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature, filling out. He is an above average player for his age. Feet are active in making plays as a SS, but he needs to be more aggressive in playing through the baseball with his feet and hands. Glove action is clean and smooth but deep at times due to feet stopping through the fielding process. Throws show accuracy and flash carry. Robert's body type and actions may be more suited for a corner infield spot as he matures. Offensively, he shows a balanced approach and works to keep his hands inside the ball as he makes consistent contact. He needs to finish his swing with more extension, but he currently shows good balance and pull side pop. With 4 years to further develop, Robert has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
