10/28/2012 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX In Roberto's second Factory outing he showed increases in all aspects of his game, as well as pitching for the first time. Defensively at shortstop, he showed soft hands, clean/quick exchange, fluid footwork, and an athletic/low fielding position with an ability to gain ground moving laterally. His backhand footwork, glove-side range and double-play feeds were all strengths. Getting to the bag earlier on double-plays and continuing to increase his arm strength will increase his defensive grades even more. Offensively, he has tall/open setup, generates fast bat speed, makes consistent contact, and is fluid/on-time with his rhythm. The gap-to-gap hitter stays inside the ball, is direct with his barrel, drives the ball up the middle of the field and utilizes his lower half. His hips drift forward at times, his swing path gets uphill, and his bat has a lot of movement in his pre-pitch. On the mound, he throws three pitches, with his fastball hitting 82 MPH and his curve-ball having 11/5 shape with gradual action. His change-up is his best off-speed, sitting 69-71 MPH with glove-side run and fastball arm speed. He throws from the same high 3/4 arm slot with long/loose arm action as he does defensively. He gets to a tall/controlled balance point, with on-time, smooth separation and rhythm, level shoulders, all while staying in line to the dish with a complete finish. His hands separate high and he falls off at times, otherwise, his pitching mechanics are pretty sound. Overall, Roberto is an athletically built ball player, that projects best as a shortstop, but can also pitch effectively.
