07/29/2014 - Under Armour Southwest Championships, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Ross continues to work hard on his game. This defensive specialist showed well during his time at the Under Armour Southwest Tournament. Behind the plate, he presents a low target and receives with a soft mitt. He has good 'baseball smarts' and knows the game. Pop times are now in the 2.09 range as he has a quick release to throw. With the bat, Ross shows a balanced approach from both sides of the plate. He utilizes his strong lower 1/2 to drive the ball with pop to all parts of the field. A gamer - Ross brings his all to the field everyday.

06/16/2014 - College PREP - Houston, TX Ross is a 6'1/200 lbs two-way prospect that showed his consistent playing ability in his most recent Baseball Factory outing. Behind the dish, he flashed pop times in the 2.1 - 2.3 range after receiving with soft hands and gaining ground. He showed an ability to stick the arm side pitches and took good angles to block. Cleaning up his body control by strengthening his core and speeding up his exchange are two aspects where Ross can see defensive improvements. Over at the hot corner, he was efficient with his feet, on-time to field, and soft with his hands. He utilized a productive pace, not rushing himself to make plays. Offensively, he was aggressive with the lower half, however would spin at times - lacking the drive through the ball that will allow greater pop. He is direct with his hands and does a nice job of accelerating the barrel through the zone. Overall - Baer is a promising player that has a lot of upside with his solid baseball frame and playing ability.

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City Ross is a R/R who can swing it. He has quick hands, an open stance, and has the ability to hit to all fields. He showed this ability during Pirate City. Ross has quick bat speed, an on-time launch, and nice pop in his bat. Behind the plate, Ross sits in well, he has good body control, and he looks the ball into his glove. He shows good overall actions and will lower pop times with increased arm strength.

11/17/2013 - College PREP - Houston, TX Ross is a solid, athletic C/3B that will graduate in 2015 with a ton of potential at both positions. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times shows a range of 2.15-2.25 with accuracy and carry on his throws as he displays well above average arm strength. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At 3B, he moves well laterally, displaying range and works to play through balls with his body. Hands are soft / sure and he presents well out front. At the plate, Baer continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed to and through the point of contact, creating extension. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with the baseball exploding off his bat when centered, displaying gap to gap pop. With 2 years to further develop, Ross has the makings of a special type player and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
