07/15/2010 - College PREP - San Jose, CA Ryan is a strong, big legged Catcher who will graduate in 2011. Behind the plate, Ryan has a quiet set-up, soft hands, and a quick release. He blocks the ball smoothly, deadens it softly, and is online with his throws. Ryan can improve defensively if he can drop to his knees quicker when blocking and widen his base when receiving. Offensively, Ryan has a good base, good bat speed, and quick hands. He puts the ball in play, and the ball jumps off of his bat. If Ryan can improve his approach, get more extension through the ball, and work the ball to all fields, offensive numbers can further improve. Overall, Ryan is a nice Catcher with a bright future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
