01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (FL) Ryan is an athletic/projectable (6'1"/185) SS who can pick it. Defensively, he has active prep and is aggressive to come and get the GB working right to left. Soft hands make the plays as he funnels to a clean transfer to throw. Throws are accurate with carry/backspin across the diamond (85 mph). At the plate, this lefty displays a tall setup with fluid rhythm to load. Stroke is smooth to and through the ball at contact as he creates good extension through the finish. He has good pop off of the barrel and hits consistent/hard line-drives (exit velo = 85 mph). Black (2022 grad) has the tools that will easily translate into a very high level.

12/06/2020 - National Evaluation and Tryout - Frisco (DFW), TX Ryan continues to show as a top prospect on the diamond. A RHH- hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) as he squares the ball up consistently driving it on a line. He has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop. Defensively, he takes a quick first (6.93 60 time) step and has plus lateral range. He creates angles around the GB with fluid actions. DP turns are quick with zip on his throws (88 mph velocity). Defensive abilities are outstanding as he shows big play potential.

02/16/2020 - College PREP - Highland Park (DFW), TX Ryan is a SS prospect who will graduate in 2022. In the field, Ryan shows active footwork and is agile covering ground. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains ground well on his throws, keeping them on-line to his target. Working on his arm accuracy can help Ryan improve defensively. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to consistent contact and line drives. Ryan can improve as a hitter by maintaining center balance throughout his swing. Overall, Ryan is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Ryan is an athletic and talented Infield prospect that was very coachable. On the INF, Ryan is on time with his prep step, he presents a low/early glove, and plays through the ball. He has a good first step to the ball which allows him to have range on both sides of the glove. He needs to continue to have a clean exchange and shorten his arm action. At the plate, Ryan starts in an open stance, he loads his hands back into the drive position, and keeps a quiet head. He has good pitch recognition and looks to drive the ball to all fields. He rotates his core and keeps his head down at contact. Ryan has a high baseball IQ and was eager to learn each day. He has a bright future and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/16/2019 - College PREP - Highland Park (DFW), TX Ryan is a lean, athletic 2B who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying solid hitting / power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball and shows a feel for the barrel, flashing gap-to-gap pop. At 2B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active and he displays proper footwork but needs to play through balls more with his body. Glove action is soft /sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves and he increases foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Ryan has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
