07/17/2010 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Ryan showed similar abilities in his game as he has done in previous workouts. He is a talented OF with good speed and good knowledge of the game. Ryan runs good routes in the OF and he has a quick 1st step. He has a good pre-pitch set up, he plays through ground balls, and he delivers the ball accurately to his target. At the plate, Ryan is an aggressive hitter with good pop in his bat. He has a good load, excellent bat speed, and he makes good use of his lower 1/2. If Ryan can improve driving the away pitch, and not cut off extension through the ball, strong offensive numbers could get even better.

06/28/2009 - Team One West 2009 Ryan is a player that loves the game day in and day out. He hustles everywhere he goes and continues to shows his enthusiasm for the game. He really shows potential as a hitter as he shows very good bat speed and good barrel accuracy on the ball. He has above average pull power, and will need to show the ability to drive the ball to the opposite field to keep pitchers honest. He will also benefit as a hitter by limiting the rotation of his shoulders and staying through the baseball longer. Defensively, Ryan shows good closing speed on balls in the gaps, but he could really improve his range by getting a better read on balls off the bat. His arm is adequate, and good with accuracy, but does lack a smooth arm stroke and carry. Ryan is a player that most definitely will develop his areas of improvements. His work ethic tells of a rising player.

06/19/2009 - USA Baseball 16U Championships (AZ) - 2009 Ryan continues to show steady improvement in his baseball abilities. His body continues to shine showing some strength with projection as he matures and fills out. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.95 runner. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes and angles in tracking down balls in the OF. He has a feel for and an idea for his defensive play, displaying range. Arm strength is slightly above average and he needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength with carry on throws. Feet and hands work well together through the catch and throw process, showing a quick release. At the plate, Cooper continues to shine. Hands are quick and direct to the baseball, generating bat speed. Swing path is level through a balanced approach. He needs to let the baseball travel more to allow his hands to stay inside the baseball to utilize all fields. Power is present with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. He was 4 for 14 at the event with 2 2B. Makeup is also a plus for Cooper as he plays hard and keeps the game in perspective. With 2 years to further develop, Ryan has a ton of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he improves.

04/05/2009 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Ryan has a good, solid, athletic frame that bats from the left side and throws from the right. In the OF, Ryan not only looks athletic but plays like it as well. He gets good jumps on balls, plays through grounders well, gets behind the fly nicely, and is accurate with his throws. To become an even better OF, Ryan could get better jumps than he already is by creating more preliminary movement to each pitch, he could develop a better OF crow hop, and land more direct to the target he chooses to throw to. As a hitter, Cooper showcases well by showing a balanced stance, throwing of the hips and the bat barrel, attacking the ball, and getting good extension. All of this will allow him to hit with tremendous power. Ryan could take his hitting to an even higher level by dropping his back elbow to generate even more bat speed, by leveling out his bat path, and hitting more to all fields. Keep an eye on the potential of this young man!

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
