Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

01/13/2023 - Baseball Factory's Spring Training at Jackie Robinson Training Complex (MS) Ryan Coulbourne is a 2027 RHP and 1B prospect. At the plate, Ryan makes consistent hard contact with a fluid swing. Showed good patience in taking quality at bats. Ryan can really pick it at first base, showing off good hands. Made good accurate throws from his position. On the mound, he displays a good presence and good feel, carrying himself with confidence. Fires in strikes consistently with a fluid delivery and good stride and length. Projects as a finesse arm, needs to work on developing off-speed offerings as arm gets stronger.

11/06/2022 - All-In Membership - Gambrills, MD Ryan is a RHP/1B prospect who will graduate in 2027. On the mound, Ryan gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and finishes square to the plate. Ryan operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 61mph. Breaking ball sits from 55-66mph. Changeup sits from 52-54mph as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Driving his lower half more can help Ryan improve his pitch velocity. In the field, Ryan shows active footwork and creates good angles. He fields the ball out in front of his body and has a clean exchange. He gains ground well on his throws and keeps them on-line to his target. Ryan can field ground balls more efficiently by getting into a lower fielding position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a closed stance and takes a short stride. He leads well with his lower half and works through a direct swing, spraying the ball to all fields. Working a smoother load into his swing can help Ryan barrel up more baseballs. Overall, Ryan is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
