Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHPPosition Projection

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament This RHP continues to show well. He pounds the zone and throws strikes, working the ball to both sides of the dish. FB shows arm-side run and will get in on the RHH. He keeps the ball down in the zone which will result in a ton of ground ball outs. He finishes well out over his front side with extension and is ready to field the position. Ryan (2016 grad) will compete every time his toes the rubber.

12/20/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Ryan is a gamer who competes on the bump. An athletic RHP who has a strong frame - he commands the zone. He shows an effective 3-pitch mix working both sides of the dish. His FB cracks the mitt at 87mph showing arm-side run that he's not afraid to run in on the RHH. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape as he throws it with FB arm speed showing as a solid out pitch. Pick-off move is quick as runners won't get good jumps. A strike thrower - he works ahead in counts and will get outs at the next level. In the infield he has the arm strength to play a deep 3rd base. He presents glove early and works ground up with a clean quick transfer. Offensively he has good balance, maintains a tall backside with a level path a quick hands with the ability to drive baseball. He will improve at the plate as he gets stronger and his rhythm and timing becomes more fluid.

12/07/2014 - College PREP - Grand Prairie (DFW), TX Ryan showed improvements to his ability in his most recent outing with Baseball Factory. On the mound, he ran his fastball to a new high of 87 MPH, while spinning an 11/5 CB, and throwing a CH with tail. He had good actions and clean mechanics with late life to his fastball - which he used to pound the zone. Becoming more consistent with his release points for his off-speed pitches, and maintaining his arm speed will improve pitch effectiveness. At 3B, he showed decent range and made plays with a sure glove. More body control and agility work will increase play in the infield. Offensively, he got the bat into a good hitting position and generated plus leverage. He extended through contact, but needs to focus on staying level to and driving with the lower half. In all - Ryan is a junior that appears to have a promising future on the mound.

11/16/2014 - College PREP - Germantown (Memphis), TN Ryan is a tall, lanky, and athletic RHP/3B that will graduate in 2016 and has a frame well suited for the mound. Currently, he projects slightly better on the mound for the next level. Delivery is repeatable as he uses his lower half well and allows his arm action to work long and well to the plate through a high 3/4 arm slot. Arm strength is well above average as indicated by his top velocity of 83 mph. Fastball shows a range of 80-83mph on a downhill plane with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with sinking action. Slider resembles with late / hard break. Off speed stuff show potential as being quality pitches. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches through a quick / fast tempo. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At 3B, feet are active / aggressive as he works to square balls up, displaying soft / sure hands. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls more and plays through while presenting hands more out front. At the plate, he shows a squared setup with balance. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive / level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. With 2 years to further develop, Ryan has an upside on the mound and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
